Hi, I'm Carmen.
I'm Carmen, a Counsellor in Training at IASH.SG.

“Instead of possibilities, I have realities in my past, not only the reality of work done and of love loved, but of sufferings bravely suffered. These sufferings are even the things of which I am most proud, although these are things which cannot inspire envy."

Hello there. Are you looking for someone to talk to?
While suffering, in one form or another, is an unavoidable part of life, no one should have to suffer alone. I think it is normal and necessary for everyone to seek a trusted connection with another. And much more so when we are going through challenges in life. Thus, I seek to create a safe, ethical and accepting environment for my clients to process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
My Approach
The counselling journey for me is collaborative, involving a partnership with my clients to understand and address their needs. In this process, my clients are given the opportunity to make sense of challenges and develop strategies for resolution at their pace. My goal is to empower clients to build a deeper understanding of themselves, their dignity and their journey.

About Myself
It was transformative when I became a Catholic in my junior college days and discovered my vocation in life in my twenties. Life is good but it is not always smooth-sailing. I have learnt (through plenty of boo-boos) that I can talk about my feelings and struggles, and find the acceptance and space to face my issues. I have also been privileged to journey as a mentor with many wonderful individuals who have taught me more than they realise.
I spent some years teaching in a public school, before heading off overseas to study, and then worked in the private sector developing courses related to personal development. Somewhere along the way, I decided that my passion still lies in journeying with people as they face the ups and downs of life.
I enjoy nature and have cool stories of getting lost in the mountains. I go running or swimming for exercise. I love reading and have the curious habit of starting on a few books at the same time. Having gone through many failed attempts to learn an instrument…I think I’ll leave it at that for now.
